Armenia displays astonishing natural diversity of landscape. Flourishing Ararat valley, Aragats mountain with its powerful slopes all covered by the alpine meadows, Sevan lake with its turquoise colour and crystal clean water, rivers, forests, the ‘Symphony of Stones’, basalt rock formations unique in its kind in the canyons of Azat and Arpa rivers and much more make up the unmatched beauty of spectacular sceneries found in Armenia.

However, Armenia is mostly a rocky country and stones are considered to be part and parcel of this country. Only one third of country’s land is arable and while traveling in Armenia you may often here that ‘Armenians squeeze bread out of the stone’.

 

Armenia is one of those rare countries small in territory but notable for its rich diversity of geological structures. The agri-biological diversity of cultivated plants, as well as many endemic, relict and rare species will surprise the visitor.

 

In spring, you can see the mountains of Armenia carpeted with fabulous flowers. It is the motherland of apricot and is also famous for a variety of plants. Here you can taste the pomegranate, grapes, fig, apple, walnut, etc.

 

Armenia is also rich for its species of invertebrates, birds, fishes, snakes and many others. In the forests you may come across wildcat, fox, leopard, Syrian bear, lynx, etc. And almost two thirds of birds known in Europe can be observed in Armenia.
